The Washington Early Music Festival is made up of people like you, who love and support early music in our community. It was founded in 2003 and is made up entirely of people – professional musicians and members of our community – who give their time and talents to create a festival full of music. The Festival offers opportunities to hear period opera, vocal and instrumental concerts of historically-informed performance on period instruments, workshops where adults and children can get a personal experience of what it feels like to participate in early music – vocal, instrumental, and dance. The Festival creates an informal and welcoming atmosphere for all, and offers the highest quality performances by some of the best musicians in the field.
Unlike many events in the Washington D.C. area, the Festival is not subsidized. Ticket prices, kept low to be affordable to all, do not begin to meet the expenses of running a major festival, even one with no paid employees such as ours.
To continue to offer this festival we need your support. You can help in many different ways.
