Piffaro, The Renaissance Band World-renowned for its highly polished, energetic and richly varied performances, Piffaro, The Renaissance Band, a Philadelphia based ensemble, has delighted audiences throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and South America. Piffaro recreates the elegant sounds of the official, professional wind bands of the late Medieval and Renaissance periods as well as the rustic entertainments of the peasantry. Audiences from Seattle to Spoleto, Italy have marveled at the virtuosity of the ensemble, its precision and impeccable intonation, but most of all its vitality and enthusiasm. According to Early Music (London, England), "Piffaro may just be the best Renaissance wind band to appear in the (think of it!) twenty-five years since David Munrow ..." Piffaro has recorded extensively, and can be heard on the Newport Classic, Deutsche Grammophon's Archiv Produktion, Wyndham Hill, Passacaille, and currently on Dorian Recordings labels.

Piffaro will be working with Philip Cave and Michael Holmes at a workshop for voices and instruments on the music of Philippe Rogier on Saturday, June 4, at St. James' Episcopal Church, Capitol Hill, and then at 7:30 PM, performing music for festivals of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Guerrero, Victoria, Gombert, and others, with Chantry at St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church.
